Evangelicals on the Constantinople Trail

Tweet Share

You bring the candles, I’ll bring the incense, and we’ll have the newest fad in American evangelicalism.

The “Call to An Ancient Evangelical Future” was released in September in, of course, the pages of Christianity Today. My colleagues at Touchstone magazine, Wilfred McClay, Darryl G. Hart, S.M. Hutchens, and David Mills, and I respond to the Call in a symposium in the November issue. You can access the forum online here.

As I mention in my critique, there’s not much in the actual content of the Call with which I (or any Christian) disagree. I just wish it were more ancient, more futuristic, and more evangelical.

Only when we see how lost we are, we can find our way again. Only when we bury what’s dead can we experience life again. Only when we lose our religion can we be amazed by grace again.
