I wonder, though, that the picture you've painted is incomplete. If it is the Spirit of adoption "shed abroad in our hearts" that enables us to call God our Father, where then is the transformative work of that same Spirit? How do we remain the children of Satan if we have been born again? It’s quite a powerful image, especially to someone who was himself adopted and is now an adoptive father in his own right.
