I agree whole-heartily with your post here. It is very well-written! A good word for churches. Something struck me as I was reading this, though, that reminded me of another group using the same tool.

A few nights ago, curiosity spurred me to watch an episode of the “Modern Family.” I see in this show (and many others) the same approach that you talk about here of assuming a future normalcy in efforts to redefine present cultural norms. The title “Modern Family” blatantly adheres to this method.

And isn’t it just like God’s Kingdom to welcome the Count (the walking dead…..that’s us) and Oscar the Goruch with love and open arms…….whereas that’s not always what our churches do.

I agree, good word.
May it be the aim of the Church, and all churches bearing the image of Christ, to say, “Welcome to the future, to the Kingdom of Christ in miniature.”

And no, I didn’t hum Ernie’s song; I sang it.

The power of a vehicle to transform an entire generation, becoming a societal lens… may churches today move towards that end, of becoming the new normal.

The way the Bride was intended — to point to the Groom.

And as Sesame Street clearly demonstrates, this kind of “contextualizing for the future” is especially important for our kids. By God’s grace, may eternity break into the present through our faith… and may our children see this faith and believe.
