Enjoyed your comments.

Interesting words used to Mary. Others (like Thomas) Jesus urged to touch him. The point seems to be that from now on Mary must learn she is in a new relationship with Jesus. He is no longer Jesus on earth but Jesus in resurrection. She will know him now as risen exalted Lord.

As you say friends have become brothers etc. Shortly he will breathe on his disciples and say 'receive the Spirit' - a precursor to Pentecost. Like Mary our relationship is to a risen and reigning Christ, a relationship not with Christ 'according to the flesh' but 'according to the Spirit' (Roms 1:3,4)

2Cor 5:16-17 (ESV)
From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

This truth, it seems to me, should colour our whole Christian thinking and life.

Thank you Dr. Moore for this eye-opening post. I have been reading the gospel accounts this week of the time leading up to Jesus' crucifixion, focusing on what Jesus was doing with his disciples and some of their actions. So thankful he is not ashamed of me, I may have been hiding and cowering with the disciples.

Thank you Dr. Moore. What an intimate thought, that he considers me his brother. Buddy's preaching through John so this is especially insightful during this time.

It seems that everything I'm reading today is exceptionally impactful - that my heart is more sensitive today, somehow, than most days to truths such as this. I'm in almost disbelief at the magnitude of what you're proclaiming.

Sometimes I feel just like one of those disciples - cowering, hiding, as you said it, sniveling. Yet He's not ashamed of me. Wow.
