The Cross and the Jukebox

In this special Good Friday episode of “The Cross and the Jukebox,” we look at one crucial aspect of our Lord’s suffering: the isolation and loneliness he bore from Gethsemane to the grave. As we listen to George Jones’ singing about the cup of loneliness, we’ll ponder why Jesus uses the language of “cup” when speaking of the cross, and about what that has to do with the crosses Jesus promises us we’ll all have to carry between here and resurrection day.

I was thinking a good song to do would be, “The Times They Are A-Changin’” by Bob Dylan. This is a song that pulls strongly at my emotions without completely being understood. It’s not country per se, but it’s definitely a roots music folk song. It seems like he speaks of an apocalyptic scene but he offers no solution other than step back and let it happen. I don’t know what it all means, but I think that’d be great to hear your insight on.
