Orphans are needy of the love we can give them. My niece has adopted two lovely children from Honduras and I am very proud of her!

My husband and I had a similar experience last night. We adopted two boys from Ethiopia last June. At first, our now 3 year old, hated ice cream or anything sweet. Last night we went out for ice cream after church and he was so excited. He ate the whole bowl. Every time I see him devour ice cream it makes me think of how much has changed in our family in just a year. It makes me thankful for how far God has brought all of us, but our two sons from Ethiopia in particular.

Thank you for your ministry. May God continue to bless your family!

While much of what the author says is true there is an apparently lack of understanding of how this new agreement by stopping independent adoptions will result in more children being left to die in the Russian orphanage system. Adoption agencies are out to make money; that's what they do. When a case becomes "too hard" or a place becomes "too inconvenient" (like our son's orphanage) they will not work with them. Accreditation means nothing to the children when the "accredited" agencies lie to their clients, when they overcharge, and when they require gag orders on their clients to keep them from speaking out. The tragic deaths of children are not caused by who facilitated the adoption and if the author were to do their homework they'd find that in the Hanson case and almost all of the others, an accredited agency was used. How many children will not come home, how many more children will die as a direct result of yet another, ineffectual layer of bureaucracy?

While I applaud most of the sentiments in this article, it makes me sick to read statements like "They hear every day the gospel of Jesus Christ......". This is all too familiar with American adopters and is extremely worrying.

I am also the father of an adopted child, but was not driven, spiritually guided or influenced by some misguided religious zeal which encouraged me to "rescue" another soul for Jesus Christ. My wife and I adopted our daughter because of love - nothing more. The fact that this has led us to start a charity for poor, sick and orphaned Cambodian children which has raised over $1 million in 4 years, has enriched our lives more than belief in a false god could ever have done.

[...] Russell Moore has some good news pertaining to relations between the US and Russia regarding adoption: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov signed an accord permitting American citizens to continue to adopt from the former Soviet state. The adoption process there has been threatened for some time due to, most prominently, the shocking abuse of a Tennessee mother who sent her son, adopted from Russia, back alone on a plane because he had “psychological problems.” [...]
